With a combined total of 195 points both Liverpool and Man city have increased standards in English Football and once again proved why the Premier League is the best competition in the world. English football has come as far as to book all four spots in European Cup finals. Chelsea had a frustrating night vs Eintracht Frankfurt, missing several chances to finish the German side off after a 1-1 draw in the first leg. Chelsea looked shaky in defense with injuries to their center half, Rudiger and their world class, holding midfielder Kante. As if the odds werent stacked against them enough, their replacement center half Andreas Christensen, who hasn’t seen much playing time since the arrival of Italian manager Sarri, had to be taken out due to injury.

Ruben Loftus Cheek was the shining player as he sent the Blues 1-0 as he glided a ball past Kevin Trapp in the 28th min. As the second half began, Luka Jovic took advantage of David Luiz’s lethargic defending scoring an equalizer to keep his side in it. After a full 120 min, Penalties ensued.

Chelsea Take Home Win Over Fulham

Jorginho celebrating after scoring his second goal in the Premier League

Chelsea’s midfield so far this season have had little to no goal contributions during the 2018-2019 Premier League Season. With that being said it was a spectacular moment when Jorginho smashed the ball into the top corner against Fulham this Sunday.

Fans took to Twiter shortly after the goal, showing praise for the Italian. One fan compared him to Man City’s ace Kevin De Bruyne who has only scored 1 goal this season.

Kepa Arrizabalaga also made a returning appearance to Chelsea’s starting XI. He made several saves including Fulham striker Mitrovic’s outstanding header, keeping Chelsea in the lead.

Chelsea now is within a point behind top five, keeping them out of European football. However, Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger issues a warning to the Prem teams saying Chelsea will end the season in at least third place.

Kepa Arrizabalaga: Disobeying Sarri?

Kepa Arrizabalaga refusing to be subbed during Sunday’s EFL Cup final loss.

Chelsea played an unbelievable game against reigning champs Manchester City. They held off the attacking power of Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane and Rahim Sterling for a full 120 min before going into penalties. The experienced minds of the defence and the new tactics employed by Sarri, moving Kante back into the holding midfielder role that helped France win the 2018 World Cup, kept Chelsea holding on to Cup Title hopes.

This was completely overlooked however due to the incident that happened in the 120th minute. Kepa Arrizabalaga signed for a record-breaking £71.6m, went down twice complaining of cramps in his legs. Sarri tactically looked to his bench to replace Kepa. With Willy Cabellero, ex-Man City keeper, dressing on the sidelines, the starting keeper threw a tantrum.

A post-match interview with Mauricio Sarri revealed that the incident was a complete “misunderstanding” between the goalkeeper and his manager. Sarri continually waved the incident off saying he had not received word from the medical team that Kepa was fit to continue into the penalty shootout. However, this doesn’t explain why Sarri was still fuming just before the shootout.

The incident completely overshadowed the outstanding performance of Chelsea. Kepa then went on losing the shootout for the club handing over the Title to Pep’s side. Since, Chelsea’s board has fined Kepa backing the manager.

FA CUP – Chelsea FC vs Manchester United (February 18)

After the humiliating 6-0 loss to the defending champs, Manchester City earlier on in the Prem, it was time for Chelsea to come back and seal their advancement in the FA Cup.

This match only proves further that Sarri-Ball is ineffective when it comes to facing Premier-League teams. Maurizio Sarri continued to stick with his starting XI, with the worlds strongest holding midfielder playing an attacking role in the unchanged 4-3-3 formation. Chelsea continued to hold possession of the football without purpose and defensively looked vulnerable to Man United’s deadly counter attacks and crossing.

TalkSPORT reported boos and chants against Sarri, as Chelsea supporters, “joined in as United fans sang, ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’. The Italian, however, was quick to dismiss the fans, explaining, “I have to work on my players, not on the fans… I’m concerned about the results.”

In my honest opinion, I believe it is too early to even think about sacking the manager regardless of the current results. Looking back to Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, needed the season to implement his ideas and get the club to win the League. Reporters, news outlets, and even the City faithful looked to dismiss Pep’s tactics, even talking about sacking him mid-season. He then went on, adapting his tactics and pushing Man City to glory just in his second season. If Maurizio Sarri can adapt to the tough competition found in England, we may see Chelsea back to winning ways.
